KENNETT, MISSOURI, ICE STORM

From February 9 to February 20, members of the LUMC DIRT
TEAM were in Kennett, Mo., helping to clean up after an ice storm. This storm knocked out power from Oklahoma to
Kentucky. In the small town of Kennett over 450 power poles were knocked down and virtually every tree sustained damage.
Kennett is located in Dunklin County, which is one of the
poorest counties in Missouri. The storm brought a great
burden to many already suffering. Hundreds of roofs were damaged, many belonging to people that had no insurance. Recovery will be slow; many homes will never be restored. The LUMC Dirt Team was the only volunteer tree and debris
removal crew in Kennett at that time. We brought the first sign of hope to many people. We would like our church family to know that their support was greatly appreciated. We would like those who prepared food to know that we shared with a person who had no food. He and others thanked us with words and we saw it in their eyes.
