This morning, there was a white-haired, distinguished looking, fellow standing in front of the US Capitol building saying to the camera, “The days of $4 gasoline will soon be a fond memory. It will quickly be $11-12/gallon.” I did not believe I could be any more shocked by fuel charges than I already have been. But that fellow shocked me.
Those high fuel prices will change our lives. High energy prices ignite inflation for most things we need. It will take some time for pensions and salaries to catch up to elevated prices of food, heating, cooling, and everything else. How will we get through this at church and at home? This is troubling.
The general church scripture for today reads like this. Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; …what you will wear; …look at the birds of the air , the heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” And finally, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? …But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well…” (Mtt. 6: 25-34)
The future may be difficult. Worry is not the answer. Faith and action will see us through

Neighborhood Concern!!
Our neighbors have asked that we slow down as we pass through the housing areas around the church. The streets are narrow and become more congested as we grow and have more and more activities. Please avoid parking along the streets as this creates blind spots and restricts access. Remember the Golden Rule. “Drive as you would want those to drive in your
neighborhood!”

Mark's Remarks 5/11
Today, as well as being Mother’s Day, is a very important day in the life of the church. Today is called Pentecost. This is the birthday of the church, when the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Jesus, came upon 3,000 or so individuals and started them moving to spread the good news about Jesus.
Holy Spirit can be defined literally. In the original New Testament it was written in Greek as hagios [holy] and pneuma [a breath, or a gentle wind]. So a better translation might be Holy Breath or Holy Wind. You won’t often hear us say, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Wind.” That just doesn’t sound right. It only sounds weird because we are used to Holy Spirit instead of Holy Wind. But Holy Wind is much closer to the reality of God’s third person. A wind moves things. Of course, when you think of wind, right now, you think of the storm that just passed through, wreaking such awful havoc. Rather, you might think of wind in connection with leaves blowing around on a beautiful autumn day or kites flying in a warming spring breeze. Think of the flapping sound of a flag on a flag pole. Wind moves things. The Holy Wind moved the church to encircle the globe.
We use the wind for a lot of things, making electricity, pumping water, pushing sail boats. One thing about it is this: if we want the wind to help us, we have to be where the wind is blowing. We want to find out where the Spirit is moving around here, and get right in the middle! Will you be there?

Mission Prayer Partners
The Missions Work Area would like to invite members of the church to sign up to be Prayer Partners for the mission team going to Crow Creek Reservation, Fort Thompson, S.D. June 8-14.
Your support at home is greatly appreciated. We would like for people to sign up to prepare simple devotions for the team member for each day that he/she will be working. An added boost would be simple snacks to be sent for the member while she/he is away. Having these items ready for the team member to have on June 1 would be great.
Next, send a note to this person so it arrives by Saturday, June 14, when he/she
arrives home, and come for a final sharing of prayer and celebration on Sunday, June 29, as the church recognizes all the outreach projects of our church.
If you have would like to be a prayer partner, please contact Elizabeth or
Everett Easley at 781-8668.
Thank you for your prayers and support.

Mark's Remarks 5/4
Many of our community have traveled to Europe and viewed the great cathedrals there. We marvel at the dedication and sacrifice over, in many cases, several hundred years, as a sign of devotion to God. We’re not going to take hundreds of years, and I don’t believe we’re looking for medieval levels of sacrifice. But there remain commonalities.
It’s not every generation that has the privilege of building for God. In some communities, the same building can serve well for generations. In communities of growth and change, where new churches are constructed, in some denominations, not everyone has a vote on the appearance of the church. We intend to provide that through our actions of May 18. We want all to have input.
That is the easy part. We all will need to labor together to make it happen. You may be happy with the look or the plan, you may like just parts. Some changes can be made. However, whether you like it all or part, we all work together. There’s no room for, “I didn’t like it so count me out.” You would want to enjoy the benefits of what will prove to be terrific, knowing that you did take part. You’ll want your children and grandchildren to know what you have done for God.
So come and vote. Come and communicate. Many have spent countless hours in assembling the long-term best plan for our church community!

IMAGINE 5/4
Praise be to God for what we’ve collectively given to Imagine, for it has allowed us to pay of the remaining debt on our existing building – we own our Sunset campus free & clear! Of course, we have debt to pay off on the Lightburne property, and much still to spend before our vision there is realized. We know many of you are digging deep and faithfully sacrificing to make this happen. Thank you. With continued faith, discipline, and hearts open to God’s guidance, we will achieve our goals.
Children’s Sunday School classes will be

In 1987, Gabriel, along with other “lost boys and girls,” began a three-month trek on foot to Ethiopia, surviving military planes, wild animals and lack of food and water.
Confronted with 12-hour work days, disease, lack of resources and more civil war, after three years the United Nations moved the children to Kenya, where Gabriel lived in a refugee camp and attended school for the first time at the age of 14 years old. Almost 10 years later, Gabriel had the opportunity to immigrate to the U.S.
Come and hear Gabriel share his experiences and his vision for educating both the children in Sudan and the U.S. All youth and adults are welcome.
