30-Hour Famine

Every 2 years LUMY takes part in World Vision’s 30- Hour Famine. This is a program that not only raises money, but also awareness to the fact that 26,000 kids die every day to hunger-related causes. In 2007 we slept outside in boxes and raised a little more than $5,000.00 and helped 14 kids eat for a year!
Our famine will take place this year on Feb. 26th and 27th. We will be sleeping outside again in our own built cardboard boxes to get just a little taste of what a homeless person may have to go through. As a group we fast together for 30 hours while we not only learn about the issues at hand, but also serve in our community.
We got together as a group to set some goals for this year, to see what we could do to help out our community, and how we could raise money. We settled on starting our fundraising goal where we finished in 2007. Our goal is $5000.00. As for doing work around the community, we need your help.
We would like to do some work around the Liberty area, and especially help out people who need it. If you know someone who needs some cleaning done, or a yard raked, or gutters emptied and you don’t have the time to help, you can purchase our help for a donation to the 30- hour famine and we will send a team of capable students out to get the job done on either Thursday evening or Friday morning.
If you would like to make a donation to the cause, you can drop it off at the youth office with checks payable to World Vision. You may also follow the link listed above to donate online. All donations can be tax-deductible.
Thanks so much for supporting LUMY in all we do.
