Children Ministries 12/21

Today in Sunday School the children will focus on verses 6 and 7 from Luke 2 – the story of the birth of Jesus. Talk to your children about baby Jesus, and sing these words with your child to the tune of “O, Christmas Tree” as you prepare for Christmas Day this week.
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
We celebrate a birthday.
On Christmas Day, on Christmas Day,
We celebrate a birthday.
Who is the ba-by that was born?
Who is the ba-by that was born?
It was Je--sus! It was Je--sus!
O, Happy Birthday, Jesus!

The Children’s Stewardship Lesson for today comes from Peter 5:2 “Be shepherds of God’s flock . . . not greedy for money, but eager to serve.” At Christmastime it’s hard not to think about gifts and food and celebrations. Help your child focus in God’s flock and reach out to them in service of some kind.

We’re currently searching for volunteers to staff the nursery for Christmas Eve Services. Please consider volunteering a small amount of time before or after the service you will be attending, so young moms and dads can worship our Newborn King! Call Allison Jensen at 816-781-4554, ext 112 and let her know when you can help. Thank you!

There will be no children’s Sunday School classes next Sunday, December 28th. Enjoy worship with your child. The nursery will be open.

Thank you to Kelly Harp, Annie Herring, Rebecca Auriemma, Stefani Luetke, Jack Davidson, Matt and Ingrid McDonald, Carrie Evans, Melody Sommers and all the Sunday School and HIS Kids teachers who worked so hard to help the children present “The Simple Gifts of Christmas” Christmas Program. After being gone to my father’s funeral, the delightful and cute program was just what I needed to fill my heart with joy. The kids did a fantastic job! Thank you to Elizabeth Anderson, Jill Davies, and Eileen Ording for directing the practice
sessions.
Thank you to Lois Jennings for helping with the cookie reception. And thank you to Mark Turnbough and my LUMC family for the beautiful plaque I received for ten years of service in Christian Education. I am honored and humbled! God Bless you each and every one!
With love, Sondra Buell

Attention 5th-and 6th-Graders
You are invited to participate in a special upcoming event called Created by God. It will be held January 9-11, 2009, with an introduction class for the parents on Thursday evening, January 8th. Created by God is a study of human sexuality with a Christian foundation. It will offer both student and parent an opportunity to learn, grow and celebrate the fact that we have each been wonderfully created by God, and are called to responsible living as sexual beings. Registration forms are due this week. If you need a copy, or need additional information, please contact Sondra Buell at the numbers listed above.

There will be no “HIS Kids” on December 24 and 31, 2008. Celebrate Christmas with your family and friends! We will resume again on January 7th.
Also, if your child is in “HIS Kids” and has not yet received a music CD, please contact Sondra Buell.
