Shuttle Ministry 2008
From October ’07 to May of ’08 LUMC developed, staffed and built a constant-run Shuttle Ministry to additional donated parking spaces at Cobblestone. We can save church dollars through 2008 if we change to an on-demand shuttle. How? Through low-impact and no-cost changes in parking habits by 100% of the congregation, we can delay starting the Cobblestone shuttle. Think of attending your favorite sporting event (where they charge up to $22 to park for 4 hours!). With dedicated volunteers helping to fill every spot, this will work, as we “Park West and Go East.”
· Enter the campus for prime parking spots beside the Study Center any time on Sunday.
· Fill the west and south parking lots first. Park there and enter any worship or class without stairs. As Methodists, we’ll make sure all doors are opened.
· Implement Hilltop Helpers (parking greeters and shepherds) as per Five Practices recommendations.
Optional, but important, develop family or neighborhood HOV (high-occupancy vehicle) personal shuttles with 3 + riders.
The Shuttle Ministry will stay active each Sunday with scheduled runs to the Retirement Centers. Then with time, assessment and securing volunteers, we’ll build to the new On-Demand system:
Phase I: October
A) Sign up Hilltop Helper teams for 1X/quarter. This job is great for those with a Servant’s heart or spiritual gift to meet & greet. No age requirement.
B) Evaluate parking patterns to improve traffic flow and secure coordinator(s) for our Hilltop Helpers.
Phase II: November
Train and initiate Hilltop Helper teams.
Evaluate and announce adjustments.
Phase III: December
Add Cobblestone parking only for special events and Christmas as East parking lot is full.
Do you know of someone who needs a ride to church this winter? Please provide their name, location (center/apartment/home) and contact information to the church office today.
