Mark's Remarks 8/17

It has been said that the perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken. This has been a great summer around here and nothing is broken. In fact, things are terrific! It’s been great for all the hard work of the church that has resulted in significant gains for the kingdom of God.
June and July brought missions. Our mission teams traveled to New Orleans, to Guatemala, to South Dakota, to North Kansas City, to Liberty and quite a few other places, bringing glory to God by the ministry of good works and helpful activity. Faithworks is on East Kansas Street today, as I write, helping a community leader by building him a ramp. This is just one of numerous projects for the summer.
The youth have been in mission, and lives are being changed. Andrew, Sarah, Donna and sponsors worked with the children of an orphanage in Guatemala. I cannot say who was more benefited, the orphans or our youth. Our youth are a large and still growing group inspired to achieve their outstanding potential.
We greatly enjoyed “The Voyage of the Friendship” this past Saturday. The voyage featured a youth musical experience/extravaganza with a cast of fourteen. It was a two-week course performed by our music department, leading us into an experience of Christ. Bryan and Sharon, the Bryans, and more lead this musical.
Vacation Bible School burst our seams in many ways. All of us children and adults learned a great deal. Thanks to the Children’s Education department and Sondra.
Who have I left out? Hundreds. Nevertheless, I want you to know that, far from being a sleepy season in a small town, where the predominant noise is the lawn mower, this has been an exciting period for the people of God!
