In 1987, Gabriel, along with other “lost boys and girls,” began a three-month trek on foot to Ethiopia, surviving military planes, wild animals and lack of food and water.
Confronted with 12-hour work days, disease, lack of resources and more civil war, after three years the United Nations moved the children to Kenya, where Gabriel lived in a refugee camp and attended school for the first time at the age of 14 years old. Almost 10 years later, Gabriel had the opportunity to immigrate to the U.S.
Come and hear Gabriel share his experiences and his vision for educating both the children in Sudan and the U.S. All youth and adults are welcome.
